Man and his environment !!

Man and his environment !!
The human activity is synergy of tangible & intangible desires with the environment. The journey to fulfill the basic or material needs is at times regulated by man, himself or by the environment. This article will help us understand the interrelationship between man and his environment, based on the theories of Determinism and Possibilism, which is a part of cultural geography. Geographical determinism or environmentalism emphasizes on shaping man’s life, his characteristics and thoughts, which is influenced by the character of his habitat or the physical environment in which he lives in, playing a passive role. This theory was propounded by Ratzel, which was further expanded by Huntington.
Some examples:
1. People living in mountains are believed to be backward, conservative, unimaginative, freedom loving
2. People from dessert area believed in one God and mostly ruled by tyrants.
3. Coastal area produces navigators and fisherman.

In the same way there are many companies in which the individual has no role to play but has just become part of the system. These companies have set processes and standards which could have been benchmark for competitors some time back, but innovation has a short span of life. Looking it from human resource perspective we can easily figure out that the corporate behavior is at times enforced upon the employee by the existing character of the organization.
Vidal De La Blache, another famous geographer often spoke of environmental Possibilities which led to the theory of Possibilism, but the theory was actually propounded by Feber. The theory states that man has been provided with lot of environmental possibilities, which as a result provides him choices to take the right decision. The people become the primary architects of a prevailing culture and if they make right choices in life then everything is possible. The range of choice is based on individual’s need and norms, but is also limited by the environment, which act as threats or challenges. The organizational environment also provides lot of possibilities but it all depends on what choices we make and how we club it together for self and organizational success.
So,what is your choice ?? ...
