Take aways from 3 idiots !!!

The most sought after movie with lot of message attached to it...It's a movie which has won the mind and hearts of people across the globe. I believe that many of my colleagues from the corporate world must have taken out their valuable time for this movie and if not then after reading through some of the management lessons they surely will. Let’s begin…
Strive for Excellence: The movie has brought out the message to the public where ever and when ever possible. Success can be momentary but excellence is imbibed and can never be extracted from an individual. Excellence always paves the way for success.
Sovereign ideas: Ideas and imagination need freedom from not only internal but also external factors which keep on acting as a hurdle to the fullest utilization of the brains. A little freedom and independence is required to churn the brains for the best possible outcome and provide out of the box solutions.
Work hard and play harder: This is a common saying but the character of Rancho, played by Aamir Khan has been able to bring it out as a possibility provided you have a drive towards excellence and not success.
Passion towards your work: Excellence can only be achieved by passion but it is really important to understand one’s area of expertise .Most of the times there is a fear in our mind similar to Raju and Farhan but I believe the role of Rancho can be well played by the HR to identify the true potential of the employee which can be used in the right place.
Winners always accept their mistake: The fear of making mistakes always hovers our mind and eventually starts controlling us. The scene in which Prof.Viru Sahastrabudhhe (Boman Irani) holds the baby and announces that his grandson has a choice of aspiring whatever drives him and another scene in which he gives the pen to Rancho as a mark of excellence. These two scenes make Boman Irani a winner.
Right attitude always find respect: If you remember the interview scene of Raju, it will strike you right away that right conduct and attitude are the most important thing in a corporate world because it makes things possible.
Overcome the work pressure: There will be very few people if given a chance will not go back to school or college, but to their surprise they would find the same level of pressure. The “CHALTA HAI..” attitude of Indians has lead to this catastrophe. The people should be so trained that the management need not sharpen their tools to monitor the activities of the employee and hang the Damocles’ Sword around their neck. The right person for the right job always helps.
Team work: The scene of the Mona singh giving birth to a baby is a marvelous exhibition of team effort under troubled situation. The people present accept Rancho as a Leader and work as per his instruction for the fulfillment of a common objective.
Emotion Quotient: The corporate world talks about the EQ of an employee to understand their self perceived ability to identify, assess and manage the emotions of one self and others. Raju was low on emotion quotient and hence was overpowered by the hardship of his family due to which he lost his focus inspite of being a bright student.
Business understanding: All of us don’t have a choice of doing things we want to, but I believe that it is important that we understand the nature of job we are getting into otherwise the story would be very similar to that of Chatur Ramalinga’s Chamitakar speech.

P.S.-The views expressed in this article are my personal and may clash with the opinion of many readers. I welcome their feedback and comment which would not only broaden the horizon of the article but would also help me blog better in the future.

  1. Very well written and very thoughtful. There are many hidden things which we see but do not realise but are true lesson. The movie was as inspiring as Lagaan that shows importance of common sense, team work, friendship, leadership and many more.

    Good analysis.....Arun

  2. very good analysis, rather thought provoking.i would also like to contribute on this. In a recent survey it has been seen that 80% enggs in India are like Chatur i.e rattu tota.Rather our education minister should learn some lesson from this movie and should try to bring about some changes in the examination pattern.

If you have the caliber and potential then nobody can stop you from achieving anything. As we can see in rancho's case even though he dint have the degree he became the great scientist. This is the knowledge age,n if you are passionate about it then sky is the limit.

Good job. Looking forward for next bolg of urs..:)

  3. Its a good post .i want to add that a lot of lateral thinking /out of box thinking
like pencil in space instead of discovering a new pen
Defining machine in commmon sense terms
Motivating and laedership lies in identifying weakness and building the persuasiveness which Aaamir is able to do to his friends

  4. hi all,
i deeply apprecaite everybody valuable suggestion.though i beg to differ on certain issues certain issues, for example the HR cannot develop the Passion for work, but definately help in developing the "Adaptability" towards the work, as there is limited options in real life or may be a work for which he/she may not have passion.
"Winner accept mistake",Bhoman Irani character may not be appropriate, because he was driven by complexity formed by various parameters like EQ,attitude etc.But in the movie "Rocket singh", his boss can taken as the correct charector for the above statement.
so deeper analysis is required,i would appreciate if all of us donot frame every thing in Management words/terms.
    thanks for this opportunity

  5. Being an engineer i could probably better co relate to this movie . I dont know about the survey but all the engineers i know are confused not only as to why did they graduate as engineers but also questioning the stream they graduated in. Talking about myself I am a mechanical engineer went on to do mba marketing now selling software solutions..And as a matter of fact I still dont know what best i am fit for..but one thing that engineering has taught me is to enjoy life and i am enjoying it to the fullest...

  7. Thoughtfully written and presented.
Very good lessons for all of us to learn but here I would like to pen down something
    1. The scene where Rancho tells about use of pencil instead of spending billions of dollor on new pen. This I read somewhere when I was in class 7th. but matter of the fact is due to chalta hai attitude we don't want to remember such things and when somebody like rancho reminds us those things we feel that he is extra ordinary but fact is we and rancho are same. We all know we should not lie but there is hardly any one who don't lie to get work done or for some other benefit.
    2. second scene where all three main characters are late for exams and when they submit their answer sheet . Professor refused to accept it .
The act they did was funny but not approprite.
This scene also reminds me of our brilliance in CUT COPY PASTE. AAMIR KHAN and the director of the film is no different. ALL COMEDY SCENES IN THE MOVIE ARE COPIED.

    3. Rancho pointed out to strive for excellence not for success and we all accept. but tomarrow when we are at our work place .We damn care about excellence all we want is to achieve our target by hook or crook.

    4. The interview scene of Raju where he speaks all truth and got the job. How many of us get job with such attitude. Believe it or not it is only to show some happy moments nothing else.
We don't get job with such attitude when the requirement was for a diplometic person
Its simple If I want a triangle why will i hire a circle.

  8. every aspect what you had taken for consideration is alomost getting people to achieve their aims in there life, but from my side i strictly follow virus rules, because thats a real life situation, what we handle, remember that dialogue what virus had said that ( KI US DUNIYA MEIN TEJ NAHIN BHAGOGE TO KOI TUMHE KUCHAL KE AAGE NIKAL JAYYEGA)
